Tips to Reduce Data Usage on Android - 2017

As technology advances, the size of content to consume on the internet grows as well. The faster the internet speeds, the more the data consumption. Over the past few years though data consumption has grown exponentially and if you’re not on an unlimited connection, it can get a bit hard to manage your online life. Increasingly sophisticated websites and data hungry apps don’t provide much help either.

Google has taken data savings on Android seriously and so have a couple of other app developers like Opera and Facebook. If you’re on a limited internet connection, these tips to reduce data usage on Android might come in handy.

Check your data usage

The first thing step to reducing your data usage is to check your data usage and analyze which apps are using the most amount of data and whether they’re using it in the foreground when you’re using the app or in the background. Tracking your data usage on Android is quite simple. Just go to Settings and tap on Data Usage. If you scroll down, you will see the cellular data usage by app. If you want to see your Wi-Fi data usage as well, hit the menu button and select Show Wi-Fi usage.

ALSO SEE...2 Tricks To Increase Battery Life Of Android

Set a cellular data limit here to disable mobile data once you exceed a pre-determined cap. Tapping on an app on the list will take you to the next screen where you can see how much data an individual app has consumed in the foreground and background. You can restrict the app from accessing your internet connection when in the background. This can, however, prevent some apps from properly functioning, especially Google apps and system apps.

Use Android’s built-in data saver

With Android 7.0 Nougat, Google introduced an inbuilt data saver found just beneath the Cellular Usage section. All you have to do is turn it on but remember that once you do this, background data will be restricted to all apps. If you wish to whitelist any apps, tap on Unrestricted data access. You can then toggle the sliders next to an app’s name granting it the ability to use data even when in the background. It’s probably a good idea to grant this access to any music streaming apps.

Individual app settings

In case you’re not on Android Nougat, you can still save data by surfing through the individual app settings for the apps that use. There are also data saving versions of certain apps that you can use such as Facebook Lite or Opera mini. You can also use Chrome’s data saver functionality while browsing.

Use offline functions

A lot of apps these days, especially streaming apps come with some sort of offline functionality. For instance, you can store YouTube videos offline when you are on a Wi-Fi connection for viewing later. Google Play music allows for storing your library offline on your device storage. Google Maps has the option to store a selected area of the world offline on your device as well. Even Facebook allows for saving articles and videos offline.

Compress data usage with Opera Max

Opera Max is a data saving app that saves data while browsing and especially while streaming online videos and music or viewing images. What it basically does is send the data through Opera’s own VPN servers to compress the size of media files, although, it does result in a slight decrease in quality. It is hardly noticeable, however, and Opera Max makes data saving pretty painless. It is especially useful for those of you who are not on Android Nougat.

The app will show you which apps on your phone have the most potential to save data. Video streaming requires less buffering as a result of compression and it is where the data saving is the maximum. Data consumption in video streams is reduced by up to half of what would originally be consumed. Opera Max also gives you control over each and every app individually letting you monitor their data usage and restrict it much like Android nougat’s built in data saver feature.

Apart from all the above methods, in case you use a rooted Android device, you can use AdAway, an ad-blocking application to block in-app ads which ultimately also consume data in order to be displayed. We also hope you’re not among the people who use apps such as Clean Master to clean your cache regularly because it is a useless process and the next time you open an app you will be downloading all that all over again thus consuming more data in the process.
Did you try any of the above tips? Have they helped you? Sound off in the comments below

Simple Solutions To Fix Slow Charging On Smartphone

Charging is one of the regular duty of a Smartphone user and without proper charge, your phone is likely to get low battery warning and thereafter, switch off which can be so frustrating especially, when charging ability of a smartphone is slow. That's why some smartphone supports fast charging feature but that isn't the case because proper charging deals with your care and cautions taken.

How To Fix Slow Charging On Smartphone (Android And IOS) Devices

1. Replace The Charging Cable: This is one of the common problem of slow charging, the charger. Sometimes or in most circumstances, it is the smaller USB to USB link that has the fault. These links can lose their effectiveness after some time and can't give enough current to charge your phone or gadget. Not only that, the charging head and the charger itself can be the fault.

Solution: Change the MicroUSB to link. Buy another original one or from other devices. For the charging head and the charger itself, just buy an original charger for your phone because fake charger won't have the power to charge your phone fast.

2. Use Airplane Mode: This fix is very perfect. Try to use airplane mode when charging to stop all the things running on your phone that might be consuming your battery silently. However, activating Airplane Mode will stop you from making calls and speak to others through versatile system or web.

3. Stay Away From Phone While Charging: Pressing phone while charging puts a negative effect on your battery life. It's not beneficial to your device at all. It keeps your device under substantial load and make the device warm-up.

Solution: Make sure you close and end all your applications particularly GPS, Data, Wi-Fi and others that are running.

4. Stay Away From Powerbanks: Tons of people charge their phone through Powerbanks and this keeps their phone battery under substantial load which will definitely spoil the battery. PC (personal computers) USB port are meant to use for transfer and exchange information not for charging because they don't have sufficient current to charge a phone.

See the output current of USB

Output Current of USB

USB 2.0 can give up to 500mAh
USB 3.0 can give up to 900mAh

At least, USB 3.0 (blue) port is better only if you don't have a charger adjacent and utilizing PC USB port.

5. Replace Your Battery: If your battery takes forever to full, changing the battery can also be an instant fix for it. Also, if you have been using your battery for up to 1 year and it gives 3hours to charge and under 5hours to release, you should try and change it or go for substitution.

Nevertheless, you should keep in mind that the most important type of difference from the usual is for your gadget to charge for more than 4 hours despite everything it didn't get to 100% full charge.

What do you have to say about these fix for slow charging of Smartphone? Which of them fixed your slow charging issue?

Most smartphones consume a lot of battery which makes the android user very upset. I am going to share you how you can save your battery, without boosters or nothing but by a working application.

Battery savers or battery boosters do nothing, they stop background applications for a certain period of time and according to me, they use more battery than other applications. I would like to suggest that you uninstall some of the applications that use more battery. Android versions such as Lollipop, marshmallow, and Nougat have UIR UI (User Interface) and something which we like the most is Transition effects.

How To Create Lite App Of Any Website To Reduce Data Usage

Many users don’t use the official apps of their favorite web services. For example, Facebook. It makes use of some heavy background processes to make the app fully functional. This effect drains the phone’s battery, which is the biggest reason some entry-level phone users don’t use it. They switch to lite apps or browse the service using a web browser.

This guide is specifically for the users that tend to use their favorite web services using a web browser. Here, I’ll show you how you can easily create a lite version app of your favorite web service on your Android phone.
We are going to create a lite version app by using an app called Hermit. It’s technically a web browser with full freedom of customization. It allows you to customize a web service to make an app of your own. Hermit creates a shortcut with an icon of the web service on the home screen of the launcher. You can use this shortcut as a stand-alone app which can be customized to the fullest. And best of all, it’s lightweight. It makes use of the URL of the service to browse the content. It’s basically a web browser that can be completely customized to create your own standalone lite version of a web service.

How to Create a Lite Version App of a Web Service on Android

Step-1: Download and install Hermit on your Android phone. You’ll need Android 4.4 and above. But, it can be best experienced on devices with Android Lollipop and above.
Step-2: Now, after opening the app you can take a tour of all the features. We’ll start by creating our first Lite version app of Reddit. You can create only 2 apps in the free version. You’ll need to pay for Premium to get access to unlimited apps. Now, open the sidebar and hit Create.
hermit-1
Looking for some cool lite apps for Reddit? Here are some that use less memory and storage.
Step-3: You’ll get a list of apps that Hermit already supports. You can even add a custom URL if the service is not available on the list. Most popular services are already listed. Tap on the service and the link will open.
hermit-2
Step-4: Change the name of the lite app and hit CREATE on the pop-up dialogue box.
hermit-3 hermit-4
Step-5: The lite app will appear on the home screen of the launcher. Tap on the icon and now we’ll customize it.
Step-6: Tap on the settings icon on the top-right corner and from the sidebar hit Customize.
hermit-5 hermit-6

You also get other options like Block Ads and removing the frame from the top. I recommend you to select Frameless. That will give a total app like feel with only the status bar at the top.
Step-7: Here, you can choose how the lite app should behave. You can turn off tracking and even enable the data saver mode. All these options are available for all the lite apps. Now, we’ll change the theme. You can change the status bar color and frame color. Also, you get the option to change the icon from the app. However, you can change that using the launcher too.

User Experience and Performance

Since it’s actually a web browser you’ll be using the mobile website of the service, the user experience might not be great. But the customizations can give you the feel of using an actual app. In terms of performance, it’s totally lightweight. It took only around 10 MB of RAM and 3.45 MB of internal storage with 2 apps on board.
Hermit is the perfect solution for the mobile website users. If you are a casual user of a service then Hermit can be the best alternative app for browsing it. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Thus UC browser probably thought about this and decided to add this feature in other to enable people read various article's from the web with ease.

9. Solve Retrying Or Expired Link During Download Process
This is one of my best trick i love doing with Uc browser. Many at times, when you're downloading a file with huge gigabytes, there's a high risk that you will get the "Retrying" error when the download process is almost about to complete. Starting all over again isn't an option so you can easily resume your download from where it stopped with this guide.
  •  Hold the file downloading, click on details and copy the file url
  • Open your file manager or es explorer(recommended Download now)
  • Nevigate to Uc browser folder either on the sd card or internal memory.
  • you will see the main downloading file and a temporary download file with the extension .dltemp. Now, tap and hold on the files, then copy both of them to a different location.
  • open uc browser and delete the downloading files that failed.
  • paste the url you copied and go.The file will automatically download.
  • immediatly it start downloading, pause it
  • open your file manager again and delete the the main downloading file and a temporary download file with the extension .dltemp.Then move back files that was copied to a different location back to the uc browser folder.
  • open uc browser and click on continue, your file will automatically continue to download where it stoped at first.
 10. Make Use Of UC Adds-on Or Extensions
Intense! Just like Chrome, UC browser features a powerful add-ons also known as extensions. Add-ons are the sub-programs that has been or can be added to pre-existing programs. There are number of add-ons available for UC browser and few of which are already installed by default. However you can add more add-ons as much as you want without any limit
.
Simply open UC browser and access the menu. Then tap on the "Add-on" option, here you will find all the already installed extensions which you can use (we discussed some earlier). Now if you want to add more extensions, click on the plus sign and you will be taken to "ucweb addon sub domain". Next select your favourite add-ons and hit "Install". You will be redirected to the Google Play Store. From there hit the "Install" button and allow permission. That's it. You've successfully added it.
